Chas. G. Haake & Sons (now known as Haake Companies) was founded by Charles G. Haake, Sr. in 1926. Mr. Haake was involved in several banks, a credit fire insurance company and the insurance agency. He also directed the Works Progress Administration in the Kansas City area during the 1930's.

The operation of the agency and the credit fire insurance company were passed to Mr. Haake's three sons in the 1940's. The credit fire company provided the majority of the revenue until the third generation of Haake's joined the firm in the 1970's. At that time, the credit fire insurance company was sold and the agency operation was purchased by the third generation, consisting of Henry, Jerry and Charlie Haake. At the time they purchased the agency in 1979, the agency produced less than $1,000,000 in total premium. Marty Haake joined the agency in the early 1980's and became a shareholder within ten years. Frank Zima joined the agency in 1994 and became a shareholder in 1999. The agency redeemed the shares of Jerry Haake and Henry Haake on April 1, 2006. In February, 2010 Haake joined Marsh & McLennan Agency as a platform agency serving the Midwest region.

Haake Companies is recognized for its expertise in program and association business. Two of note are a restaurant program including a self-funded Workers' Compensation plan, a traditionally funded Workers' Compensation plan and a Package Property & Liability plan. Haake insures over 1,800 restaurants under this program. Haake continues to develop programs in the alternative funding area. In particular, a Risk retention group consisting of 36 Community Blood Centers and a self insured program for 60 counties in the state of Kansas.
